SUPPORT PRODUCTS

Writer: cecamilo6cecamilo6

According to the UNE-EN ISO 9999:2012 standard, assistive products are any product (including devices, equipment, instruments and software) specially manufactured or available on the market, used by people with disabilities.

These are all instruments, devices or appliances that have been manufactured with the main objective of facilitating the performance of daily tasks, specially designed for those people who cannot perform said tasks independently, either because they have a decrease in their physical, sensory, cognitive or degenerative functioning. Allowing people to have autonomy and greater participation in the execution of daily activities, providing a better quality of life.

The use of the products is subject to the opinion of a health professional (physiatrist-physiotherapist-occupational therapist, speech therapist, etc.) or an Orthotics and Prosthetics Technician. They evaluate the level of cognitive and physical functionality and the particular needs of each user, to determine which support product would be most recommended according to the condition they present.

Type of Support Products

Skills training/learning assistive devices: These are personal assistance devices for the development of therapeutic activities, which generally support rehabilitation staff in the development of treatment procedures. They include pressure relief cushions.

Mobility support products

They are personal assistance devices that compensate for limitations in walking (cane for orientation and mobility) or replace walking to move around in a wheelchair.

Support product for personal care and protection

They are personal assistance devices that support basic daily activities such as dressing, hygiene and grooming. They are generally of low complexity.

Support product for domestic activities

They support home maintenance activities, care for others, and help with food.

Furniture and adaptations for homes and other premises

Special furniture for people with disabilities and adaptations to homes, offices or schools to make them accessible.

Assistive products for communication and information

Device to help a person receive, send, produce and/or process information in different forms, aids for reading, writing, telephoning and security alarms.

The CE CAMILO Foundation, in its 25 years of experience working with people with disabilities, promotes the use of assistive products because:

  1. They help each person achieve independence, productivity and autonomy in different daily activities.

  2. They prevent the deterioration of the affected body structure and increase its functionality.

  3. They make the caregiver's job easier.

  4. They promote communication and social interaction.

  5. They facilitate mobilization and good positioning.

Who needs a support product?

  • Person with a disability

  • An older adult who has a decrease in some bodily or cognitive function.

  • People who have progressive loss of autonomy and management of daily life activities.

A support product is more than just an object, it is an ally for all those who want a better quality of life and to maintain their autonomy and independence.
