Sustainable Development Goals

All CE CAMILO activities contribute in one way or another to the United Nations Millennium Goals.

Goal 1: Eradicate extreme poverty and hunger When we started in 1998 almost all the children with disabilities who we attended had a degree of malnutrition. Thanks to the daily lunch and snack and the support of our nutritionist only a minority is now underweight. With the Education for Work programme, we create more possibilities for young people with disabilities to find a job and do productive work and thus generate an income.

Goal 2: Achieve universal primary education CE CAMILO offers education and care to children and young people with disabilities who did not find a place in regular education.

Goal 3: Promote gender equality and women's empowerment:  We promote women's rights in training sessions with parents. In case of domestic violence, we activate the route for adequate care and protection of women and their children.

Goal 4: Reduce child mortality. Many children at CE CAMILO have health problems related to their disability. We help families seek timely care and teach them how they can prevent illness and infection. This has contributed to reducing mortality and morbidity.

Goal 5: Improve maternal health. We offer sex education to all children and youngsters, and to the parents. We note that most mothers now use a family planning method.

Goal 6: Combat HIV/AIDS, malaria and other diseases. We work with the children, youngsters and families on health promotion and disease prevention. We produce booklets that we share with our users.

Goal 7: Ensure environmental sustainability. CE CAMILO has an ecological policy. We promote recycling and the reasonable use of natural resources. We installed solar panels for renewable energy.

Goal 8: Develop a global partnership for development. CE CAMILO promotes public policy on disability and has established alliances with state entities, universities, organisations, foundations, companies, and the media at regional, national and international levels to promote the rights of people with disabilities, universal accessibility and more and better care.
